Statement by Premier Lantz on the extension of prorogation

Hon. Rob Lantz, Premier of Prince Edward Island, issued the following statement on the extension of prorogation:

“The passing of Hon. Mark McLane is being felt deeply across the Legislative Assembly and throughout Prince Edward Island.

In recognition of this loss, and to allow members of the Legislative Assembly to attend his funeral, the prorogation of the Legislative Assembly will be extended until Wednesday, March 25, 2026.

I want to thank Robert Mitchell, Leader of the Liberal Party of PEI, and Matthew MacFarlane, Leader of the Green Party of PEI, for their support in this decision. 

Prince Edward Island has a small legislature, and while we may come to the House with different political stripes, there is a shared respect among members that is especially evident in moments like this.

This is a time to come together, to pay our respects, and to honour Mark’s service to the people of this province.”
