Statement by Minister of Education and Early Years on the first day of classes

Today, the Minister of Education and Early Years Robin Croucher issued the following statement to welcome students and staff back to school:

“As school doors open across Prince Edward Island today, I’d like to welcome students, educators, staff and families to a new year of learning.

Some of you will arrive feeling excited, while others may be feeling nervous about a new classroom, a new teacher, or a new school. Some of you will be experiencing your very first day, and others will begin their final year before graduation.

Whether you’re just starting kindergarten, looking forward to seeing your classmates, or starting to think about life after high school, I encourage you to be curious, be open to new opportunities, and remember to be kind to yourself and those around you.

Know that you are supported by a caring community of educators, school staff, family members, and friends who want to see you succeed.

To all the educators and school staff, I hope you are feeling recharged and ready to take on this new year. The important work you do to inspire, lead, and support students every day will leave an impact on them for many years to come.

As we enter this new year, remember that we can all do our part to make our schools a place where every learner feels safe, respected and included. I wish you all a successful and rewarding school year ahead.”
