Statement by Minister Deagle on World Family Doctor Day
Minister of Health and Wellness Cory Deagle issued the following statement:
“On World Family Doctor Day, May 19, we recognize and thank family doctors for the important role they play in the health and well-being of Islanders.
Family doctors are a cornerstone of our health care system. They build strong, trusted relationships with patients and provide care throughout all stages of life - from prevention and early diagnosis to the management of ongoing conditions. They also help patients navigate the system by connecting them to the services and support people need.
This year’s theme, Compassionate Care in a Digital World, highlights that even as technology changes how care is delivered, the human connection remains at the heart of family medicine. Family doctors continue to provide care that is personal, respectful, and focused on each patient.
Strengthening access to primary care remains a priority for our government. As part of our government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen access to primary care, eight new family physicians were hired in 2025-2026, helping to build a stronger health system for Islanders.
To all family physicians across Prince Edward Island, thank you. Your dedication, compassion and commitment to your patients and communities make a lasting difference in the lives of Islanders every day.
