Province seeks proposals for long-term care beds in Kings County
The Government of Prince Edward Island announced today that plans are moving forward to expand long-term care capacity in Kings County through a public Request for Proposals (RFP).
The RFP seeks qualified private operators to develop and operate up to 48 new long-term care beds in Kings County. This project builds on recent awards for 140 private long-term care beds in Cornwall and Summerside and supports government’s ongoing efforts to meet the growing demand for long-term care across the province.

Adding long-term care capacity also supports the health care system by helping patients move to the right care setting when they no longer require hospital care. More capacity also benefits people with complex needs who are waiting at home for placement in long-term care.
The Nursing Home Association of PEI (NHAPEI) represents private nursing homes across the province and is a valued partner in supporting the delivery of quality long-term care.

The deadline to submit proposals is October 9, 2026. This RFP is issued on behalf of the Health PEI Provincial Long-Term Care Program.
