Province seeks Islanders’ input on seasonal time change

The Government of Prince Edward Island is inviting Islanders to share their views on whether the province should continue changing its clocks twice a year.

Islanders can complete the online survey at PEITimeChange.ca until December 13, 2026. The survey asks whether they prefer to keep the current system or move to year-round standard time or year-round daylight-saving time.

“Across Canada, provinces are taking a closer look at whether changing the clocks twice a year still makes sense. It’s a conversation worth having here on Prince Edward Island. How we observe time affects everything from our daily routines to how we do business with our neighbours. Before making any decisions, we want to hear what Islanders think and understand what matters most to them.”

- Premier Rob Lantz

The survey will also seek feedback on factors that may influence people’s preferences, including daylight hours, work and school schedules, and potential impacts on businesses and communities.

The feedback will help the province better understand Islanders’ priorities and inform further discussions with the other maritime provinces.

Prince Edward Island currently observes daylight saving time from March to November, when clocks are moved forward by one hour, and standard time during the winter months. Moving to a year-round system would eliminate the twice-yearly clock changes but would also affect how much daylight people experience during the morning and evening hours.
