PEI offering free hunting licences to Canadian Armed Forces Veterans and active members of the Canadian Forces
Beginning this hunting season, Canadian Armed Forces Veterans and active members of the Canadian Forces can receive a free hunting licence.
“Hunting is enjoyed by residents and visitors to the Island, with more than 2,500 licences sold annually, and time spent outdoors is good for our mental and physical health. In addition to free angling licences for Veterans and active members of the Canadian Forces introduced in 2024, adding free hunting licences is just a small token of appreciation for those who have served our country.”
- Land and Environment Minister Darlene Compton
Duck and goose populations are healthy, thanks in part to decades of conservation efforts, both here in PEI and throughout North America.
Registration is now open for the 2026 Provincial Hunting Workshop which will take place on Saturday, September 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Participants (ages 12 and up) will rotate through stations learning about firearm safety, wildlife conservation, hunting regulations and enforcement, map and compass use, skeet shooting and waterfowl hunting techniques.
Participants who complete this free workshop, along with the online portion of the Hunter Safety Course, receive hunter certification and a PEI Wildlife card as well as a free 2026-2027 hunting licence and conservation fee. Register online at Hunting, Firearms, and Bow Hunting Safety Courses. Individuals who are unable to register online can call Forests, Fish and Wildlife at (902) 368-4683 to complete their registration by phone.
Hunting licences, including courtesy licences for Veterans and active members of the Canadian Forces, will be available August 25 online at Buy a Hunting Licence Online and at local retailers.
