Charlottetown Superstore (Deli and Bakery Closure)

The Chief Public Health Office advises that the Health Order issued on June 4 requiring the closure of the deli and bakery sections of the Atlantic Superstore at 465 University Avenue, Charlottetown, due to the presence of rodents, remains in effect at this time.

This action was taken to protect public health. Rodent activity in food preparation and storage areas presents a risk of contamination, as rodents can carry bacteria and other pathogens that may compromise food safety.

Store management is actively working with a licensed pest control provider to address the issue and continues to provide updates to the CPHO.

The CPHO reminds consumers to follow general food safety practices when purchasing and handling food from any establishment:

  • Wash fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water
  • Ensure packaging is intact and shows no signs of tampering
  • Check best-before and expiry dates
  • Avoid purchasing items that appear damaged, spoiled, or improperly stored
  • Refrigerate perishable foods promptly and maintain appropriate storage temperatures

The CPHO will continue to monitor the situation and will permit reopening only once all public health requirements have been fully met.
