New online registry helps tradespeople work across Canada

The Government of Prince Edward Island has launched an online registry of skilled tradespeople that makes it easier for employers to verify credentials and supports labour mobility across the country.

The online registry will help employers, contractors and homeowners verify whether a person holds a Prince Edward Island Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal endorsement and the trade in which they are certified. Searches can be done using identifying information such as a name and certification number. 

"Skilled tradespeople are essential to building and maintaining the homes, infrastructure, and businesses our communities rely on. This registry makes it easier for certified tradespeople and apprentices to demonstrate their qualifications, have their credentials recognized, and pursue employment opportunities both in PEI and across Canada. At the same time, it gives employers a more efficient way to verify credentials, helping connect qualified workers with jobs when and where they are needed most."

While apprenticeship and trade certification credentials have traditionally been verified through provincial apprenticeship offices, the self-service tool provides immediate access to credential information, reducing administrative steps for workers, employers, and industry partners. 

The registry fulfills a commitment in the department's mandate letter by modernizing access to apprenticeship and certification information while supporting the province’s goal of strengthening labour mobility and workforce development across Canada.
