New accessible taxi ready to serve

A new accessible transportation service, Cudmore’s Accessible Cab, is now available for residents and visitors with disabilities across Charlottetown, Stratford, and Cornwall.

Cudmore’s Accessible Cab is a two-year pilot project operated by Pat & the Elephant. The cab is an on-demand, first-come, first-serve taxi service that provides spontaneous and safe transportation throughout the capital region. The cab is named after Paul Cudmore, a long-time advocate for Islanders with disabilities.

The pilot project is funded through a partnership between the Government of Prince Edward Island, the City of Charlottetown, the Town of Stratford, and the Town of Cornwall.

Service is available daily from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, hours are extended from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m. Fares start at $8.50 plus $1.60 per kilometer. There are no additional charges for extra passengers or waiting time. The service can accommodate up to two wheelchairs at a time.

No advance booking is required. To book a ride, call (782) 377-8416. The service accepts cash or debit. Credit cards are not accepted at this time.

Cudmore’s Accessible Cab is supported by a committee that includes representatives from Pat & The Elephant, the Department of Social Development and Seniors, the City of Charlottetown, the Towns of Stratford and Cornwall, ResourceAbilities and the PEI Spinal Cord Injury Association.
