Motorists reminded to plan for traffic delays during Sommo festival

Concert goers and motorists are reminded to plan ahead when it comes to travel during this weekend’s Sommo Festival in Cavendish.

Heavy traffic delays are anticipated, with thousands of attendees expected for the event. The festival runs  September 11-12 from 12 noon to 11 p.m.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead for travelling after 10 p.m. as many vehicles are expected on the road when the concert ends. 

There will be no incoming traffic permitted after 10 p.m. between Cavendish Corner and Cavendish Tourist Mart.

During the Sommo Festival, Route 6 transforms into a one-way street from approximately 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. each night, preventing two-way traffic to manage the large crowds. Members of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will be on hand to assist RCMP with directing traffic during this time.

Festival-goers must exit the festival grounds by taking Route 6 east toward North Rustico/Hunter River if they parked on the east side of the site, or west toward Kensington if they parked on the west side. The RCMP also conducts mandatory breath screening checkpoints and patrols for impaired drivers.
