Legislative Assembly returns to Province House for the fall sitting

The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island will return to the newly restored Province House when the fall sitting begins on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

The return marks the first time Members of the Legislative Assembly will sit in the historic Legislative Chamber since 2014, following more than a decade of restoration and conservation work.

“Returning to Province House is an important moment for our province and our democracy. This building has been part of our country’s history for generations, and it is fitting that the work of representing Islanders will once again take place here. My government is ready to get back to work and continue taking action on the priorities that matter most to Islanders.”

-  Premier Rob Lantz

The fall sitting will build on the priorities outlined in the government’s spring Speech from the Throne and Operating Budget, including improving access to healthcare, addressing affordability, strengthening energy security and protecting Island land.

A key legislative priority will be changes to the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC), following the independent review led by Commissioner Rory Francis. Government has committed to introducing legislation to replace IRAC with two specialized bodies, the PEI Energy and Utilities Board and the PEI Land and Appeals Board, to strengthen transparency, accountability and public confidence in regulatory decisions.

Additional legislation expected to be introduced during the fall sitting includes amendments to the Gasoline Tax Act to address the suspension of the provincial fuel tax, a new Coroners Act and Correctional Services Act legislation to modernize public safety frameworks, and a new Good Samaritan Act to make clear that people who help in an emergency are protected from liability.

Government will also table its 2027-2028 Capital Budget, outlining foundational investment in healthcare, schools, energy and the roads and bridges that connect Island communities.

“Islanders expect their government to focus on the issues that affect their daily lives,” said Premier Rob Lantz. “We have important work ahead of us, from improving access to primary care and addressing affordability concerns to planning our energy future. This sitting is another opportunity to move the work forward and deliver results for Islanders.”

With the reopening of Province House, Islanders are encouraged to attend legislative proceedings in the historic Chamber. Members of the public can watch from the public gallery during the following sitting hours:

  • Tuesday to Thursday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Proceedings are also broadcasted live online at assembly.pe.ca.
