Affordable rural transit helps students get to campus
As thousands of post-secondary students prepare for the fall semester, the province is reminding students in rural communities that public transit can provide a convenient and affordable ride to campus.
Transit PEI connects communities across Prince Edward Island to Charlottetown, Summerside, Georgetown and other regional centres every weekday (Mon - Fri).

For students, choosing transit can mean spending less money on gas, parking, vehicle maintenance and other costs associated with driving. Post-secondary students can purchase a monthly pass for $10. A single trip costs $2.
Full-time UPEI students have access to the T3 Transit network through the U-Pass included with tuition.
Due to the popularity of the service, students are encouraged to review their route and reserve their seats as early as possible. Since January, ridership on rural transit routes has increased by more than 4 per cent year over year.
Bookings should be made at least three hours before travel and can be secured up to 30 days in advance. Recurring bookings are also available for students who follow a regular class schedule.

Quick facts:
- Average daily ridership for rural transit in 2025 was almost 600 one-way passenger trips, excluding the seasonal north shore route.
- Local and intercommunity transit services link workers to jobs, students to schools, shoppers to businesses, and Islanders to the essential services they need to enhance their quality of life.
- The North Shore summer shuttle service became a permanent service in 2025. This summer, more runs were added to give riders more options in the evening.
