Food program provides thousands of meals for children this summer

More than 1,000 Island children from across the province received healthy meals through the summer food program this year. 

Throughout the summer months, precooked, frozen meals that can be reheated were delivered directly to Island family homes with school-aged children. As of August 26, 51,231 meals have been served, with approximately 58,000 meals projected to be delivered by the end of the program.

"This is a wonderful program that helps ensure Island children have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer months. Thank you to the local food vendors and the delivery drivers from across the province who helped make this year's program such a success."

Since launching on July 8, the program has provided weekly meal deliveries every Wednesday and will continue through September 2, 2026. Meals were prepared by eight local food vendors located across the province. Registration for the program is now closed.

"Pure Kitchen has always held the view that in a prosperous country such as ours, no-one should ever go hungry," said owner of Pure Kitchen Catering Chef John Pritchard. "We believe it is our ethical responsibility to help whenever possible when it comes to food security. Whether we're preparing meals for the Summer Food Program, the PEI School Food Program or providing meals through our own community food efforts, we do what we can, when we can, as often as we can."
