Funding available to strengthen community and inclusion

Marking five years of investment in Island communities, the Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) and Community Enhancement Program is now accepting applications from residents and community groups whose projects foster diversity, equity and inclusion across Prince Edward Island.

Since its inception in 2022, the program has invested more than $2,400,000 in initiatives that strengthen community engagement and encourage a greater sense of belonging across the province.

“It’s amazing to see the incredible projects that come to fruition year after year through this program. From cultural celebrations, and community arts, to BIPOC wellbeing and empowerment, this funding ensures newcomers and marginalized groups in PEI are empowered to shape supportive, diverse communities where everyone feels a sense of inclusion and belonging.”

-Minister of Workforce and Advanced Learning Zack Bell

Among the 2026 funding recipients was the Boys and Girls Club of Summerside, which received support for its Stick Together Festival. Delivered in partnership with Lennox Island, the festival welcomed Indigenous and non-Indigenous children, youth, and families from across Prince County to celebrate Indigenous culture, advance reconciliation and support cross-cultural connections.

"The support we received through the GEDI Program helped make our 2026 Stick Together Festival our most impactful event yet,” said BGC Prince County Community Engagement and Communications Coordinator Emma Harris. “It brought together more than 400 Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members for a day centered on inclusion, belonging, reconciliation, and kindness. We truly believe this event strengthened relationships within our community while creating a welcoming space where everyone felt they belonged.”

Applications can be submitted by email to GEDI@gov.pe.ca until 4:00 p.m. on September 23, 2026.
