Senior Islander of the Year Award nominations now open

Islanders can now nominate an outstanding older adult for the 2026 Senior Islander of the Year Award.

The award celebrates the many contributions of PEI residents who are 65 years and over and promotes positive aging. Examples of contributions may include community activities and engagement, volunteering, fundraising, education, research, fitness and recreation. 

"I encourage Islanders to think about the people who inspire them, strengthen their communities and make a difference in the lives of others. This award is a special opportunity to celebrate those contributions and recognize an older Islander who is truly deserving."

For a nomination to be considered, the nominee must be:

• 65 years or older at the time of their nomination and while making their contributions;
• A resident of PEI both at the time of their nomination and while making their contributions;
• Actively contributing to their community;
• Willing to participate in the promotion of the award and related communications.

Past recipients and posthumous nominations are not eligible for consideration. 

In 2025, ten older adults were presented with a Senior Islander of the Year Award. They include Betty Dougan, Daria Valkenburg, Honourable Diane Griffin, Don Reid, Kit Loschiuk, Eileen LeClair, Estelle Bourgeois, John Rousseau, Dr. Umesh Gupta and Velma Bince.
