Feedback wanted on changes to Consumer Reporting Act
The province is inviting residents and interested stakeholders to share their feedback on laws affecting consumer reporting agencies.
The proposed amendments would remove the requirement for a consumer reporting agency, such as a credit bureau, to maintain a fixed place of business in PEI and would make related changes to support regulatory oversight. The changes would also allow consumers to request and receive a consumer report by telephone, mail or electronically.
“While consumer reporting agencies have traditionally maintained offices in PEI, this is not always possible. We need a mechanism that better reflects how consumers access this service today and aligns with regulatory approaches in the other provinces. The proposed changes will ensure PEI residents can access their consumer report by telephone, mail or electronically, which will bring us in alignment with the rules in most other Canadian provinces.”
- Justice and Public Safety Minister Bloyce Thompson
