Dr. Richard Wedge appointed Health PEI Board Chair
The Department of Health and Wellness has announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Wedge as Chair of the Health PEI Board of Directors.
Dr. Wedge succeeds Diane Griffin, who served as Board Chair during a period of significant change within the health system. Ms. Griffin was appointed as Chair in January 2023. As her term comes to an end, the Department of Health and Wellness thanks Ms. Griffin for her leadership and commitment to strengthening health care for Islanders.
Dr. Wedge is a practicing physician in Summerside and brings extensive experience in health system leadership and governance. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Health PEI from 2012 to 2016, as Interim Chief Medical Officer, and most recently as Vice Chair of the Health PEI Board of Directors. Dr Wedge has also served as President of the Medical Society of PEI and a Board member of the Canadian Medical Association, Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technology in Health (CADTH), the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI), and HealthcareCAN.

The Health PEI Board of Directors provides governance and oversight of the province’s health authority, including financial management, quality and safety of care, and oversight of the Chief Executive Officer. The board is accountable to the Minister of Health and Wellness and works on behalf of Islanders to deliver a sustainable and responsive health-care system.
