Applications open for Premier’s Youth Council

Today, Premier Rob Lantz announced that the Premier’s Youth Council is seeking members to help ensure Island youth have a meaningful opportunity to share their perspectives with government on issues that affect them and their future.

The Premier’s Youth Council gives Islanders aged 16 to 29 a direct way to share their experiences and priorities. It provides government with valuable insights into how decisions are felt on the ground, while supporting youth leadership and civic engagement.

“Listening to young people helps us better understand the realities they’re facing and the choices ahead of them,” said Premier Lantz. “The Premier’s Youth Council is about creating space for those perspectives to be heard and considered as we make decisions for the future of our province.”

Apply to the Council at Engage PEI. The deadline to apply is May 30.

The main objectives of the Council are to:

  • Ensure youth voices, ideas, and concerns are heard on a wide range of issues
  • Provide youth input that helps shape government decisions, policies and initiatives
  • Support provincial efforts to engage and retain young people by promoting opportunities in education, employment, and community involvement
  • Advise government on ways to enhance existing youth-oriented programs, policies, strategies, and resources
  • Act as a sounding board for government during preliminary policy development
