Province invests in upgraded fire simulator to enhance fire safety

The provincial government is investing in the safety and preparedness of Island firefighters through a major upgrade to PEI’s only live fire simulator, operated by the Firefighters Association (PEIFFA) at its training facility in Miltonvale Park.

The upgraded simulator will enhance training opportunities for over 1,100 firefighters across 35 departments and improve emergency response capacity in Island communities.

Premier Rob Lantz announced that the province will contribute more than $2.5 million over the next two years to support the simulator replacement project. This initiative is a partnership between the provincial departments of Justice and Public Safety and Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture; and the PEIFAA.

The new simulator will meet National Fire Protection Association standards, use environmentally friendly fuels, and reduce harmful exposure during training. It will also be available to other safety forces such as the Atlantic Police Academy, RCMP, Correctional Services, and local police departments.
