Health PEI activates masking protective measures starting October 16
Health PEI is implementing a masking policy in all its facilities beginning Friday, October 16. The move is a response to increased respiratory illness activity across PEI, and for continued patient safety.
Members of the public will be asked to wear a mask when within two meters of a patient. Masking will also be encouraged in hallways of acute care settings.
“This is an important decision that receives careful consideration. Masking during respiratory illness season protects everyone, including patients, staff, and the public. Masking is just one proactive step we can take to help keep the system stable.”
- Director of Occupational Health, Safety & Wellness at Health PEI Jillian Nixon
Health PEI staff have guidelines for when they may remove their masks. Staff will also adhere to current infection control procedures, including proper hand hygiene, staying home when ill, and reporting any respiratory illness to their manager or supervisor. All Health PEI staff are strongly encouraged to get their up-to-date COVID and Influenza immunizations.
Masks will be available onsite at entrances to Health PEI facilities. Health PEI will update the masking policy as soon as it is safe to do so.
