Statement by Minister Ramsay on National Seniors Day
Minister of Social Development and Seniors Barb Ramsay issued the following statement:
“Today is National Seniors Day, a time to celebrate older adults and thank them for the countless contributions they make to our province.
Earlier this year, our department launched the Seniors Action Plan for 2026-2031. I encourage you to take the opportunity to review the plan and see how we are working with partners and communities to help seniors thrive. The plan builds on the significant progress that has already been made to support seniors, while introducing new strategies and actions that address the current and future needs and priorities of island seniors.
The priorities in the Seniors Action Plan are reflected in the programs that we continue to invest in across the province. Recently, we announced Seniors Community Meal Grants and Seniors’ Secretariat Grants, which help support community connections and enhance the quality of life for seniors. Tomorrow, we will be recognizing older adults with the 2026 Senior Islander of the Year Award.
Improving the aging experience is a top priority for our department, but we also know it is a shared responsibility. By supporting older adults, we strengthen the social and economic fabric of our province. Today, and throughout the year, I encourage Islanders to reach out and connect with a senior in their lives.”
