Province seeks Islanders to serve on Debt Risk Advisory Committee
Applications are being accepted for appointment to the Government of PEI’s Debt Risk Advisory Committee.
The committee will provide strategic guidance to support sound debt management practices, and help the province identify, assess, and mitigate financial risks associated with borrowing, investments and other liabilities. It will also contribute to shaping policy direction to ensure that financial risks remain aligned with the province’s established fiscal anchors and broader financial goals.
"Provinces across the country are facing significant economic and fiscal pressures, but this government is committed to fiscal resilience. By bringing internal and external experts together in this committee, we can mitigate risk, strengthen accountability and ensure PEI is well positioned to meet today’s challenges while building a stronger, more predictable future for Islanders."
- Minister of Finance and Affordability Jill Burridge.
The Debt Risk Advisory Committee represents the next step in the province's ongoing efforts to strengthen debt management and accountability. These efforts have contributed to maintaining a net-debt-to-GDP of less than 40 per cent, an interest-to-revenue rate of less than 7.5 per cent, and the establishment of a general reserve. To further support future debt repayment, the province will contribute to this reserve a minimum of $2 million a year, at least 50 per cent of future operational surpluses, and 25 per cent of net income made from the liquidity reserve, as well as a portion of unexpected revenue.
Members will be appointed to serve two-year terms, for a maximum of three terms.
Once established, the committee will ensure prudent financial stewardship and accountability; in line with priorities identified in Premier Lantz’s mandate letter to cabinet.
The application deadline is August 12, 2026, at 4 p.m. For more information, or to express interest in serving on the committee, visit PrinceEdwardIsland.ca/DebtRiskAdvisoryCommittee
