Premier advances Prince Edward Island priorities this week
Premier Rob Lantz concluded a productive week of meetings with Canada’s premiers and Prime Minister Mark Carney today advancing Prince Edward Island’s priorities on energy security, economic growth, health care and affordability.
As Chair of the Council of the Federation, Premier Lantz lead discussions among premiers on strengthening Canada’s economy, responding to ongoing trade challenges and reducing barriers to internal trade, while continuing to advocate for the issues that matter most to Islanders.

Strengthening our electricity system will help support our growing province, improve reliability and create new opportunities for our economy. During the week, Prince Edward Island also took important steps to strengthen the province’s long-term energy future.
The federal government announced $5.9 million to support engineering and design work for the Prince Edward Island–New Brunswick Interconnection Expansion Project, helping advance a stronger, more reliable electricity connection between the two provinces.
The governments of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance regional electricity cooperation and develop a more integrated Maritime electricity system.
Together, these initiatives support a more reliable electricity system, improve energy security and position Prince Edward Island to meet future electricity demand while supporting long-term economic growth.
At today’s First Ministers’ Meeting, premiers and the Prime Minister also discussed Canada’s response to ongoing U.S. trade actions, strengthening the Canadian economy and reducing barriers to internal trade.
Premier Lantz reiterated Prince Edward Island’s priorities around improving health care, strengthening affordability and ensuring Islanders continue to benefit from a growing, resilient economy.
