New Summerside Community Health Centre opening marks milestone for patients, staff, and team-based care

Health PEI is pleased to announce the opening of the new Summerside Community Health Centre, a modern space designed to serve as a central location to access health services for Summerside and surrounding communities.

Several existing Health PEI programs and services will relocate into the new building, bringing together primary care and community-based services in one location to improve access to care and the overall patient experience.

The Summerside Community Health Centre will house programs and services such as Primary Care (Patient Medical Home and Chronic Disease Programs), Public Health (Nursing, Dental Health, Audiology, and the Needle Exchange Program), Community Mental Health and Addictions, the Provincial Geriatrics Program, and Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation services.

"This new community health centre is an important investment in the health of people in Summerside and Western Prince Edward Island. Bringing more services together under one roof will make it easier for patients to access care and help our healthcare teams work more closely together. It's another step toward building a stronger, more connected healthcare system that puts patients first."

-Health and Wellness Minister Cory Deagle

“Co-locating these programs is intended to improve access to care, enhance care coordination, and strengthen the overall patient experience by offering multiple services in one location,” said Laurae Kloschinsky, interim CEO of Health PEI. “By bringing care together under one roof, we're creating a hub that grows with our community and makes it easier for Islanders to get the care they need, when they need it.”

“This milestone would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of our staff,” she continued. “Over the past several months, teams from across the organization have worked incredibly hard to prepare this new space and ensure everything is in place to provide high-quality care from day one.”

An official opening event will be planned for later in the summer as operations ramp up and services are fully established.

Health PEI extends its sincere thanks to all staff and partners whose efforts have made this important milestone possible.
