Province supports rural housing growth in Morell

The Government of Prince Edward Island is investing $132,700 in infrastructure to support new housing in Morell, building on recent funding announcements in other communities across PEI.

This investment supports the province’s Building Together housing strategy by accelerating housing supply and addressing the needs of a growing population. It reflects continued collaboration with municipalities, the private sector, and the Government of Canada to build more homes, faster, while strengthening communities.

“By working together with our federal and municipal partners, we’re making meaningful investments that help more Islanders find a place to call home. It’s about putting people first and building stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.”

-Premier Rob Lantz

The funding will support the Rural Municipality of Morell in upgrading its pumping station, improving reliability and enabling the development of up to 50 additional homes.

“We’re proud to see this investment in our community. It will improve services for residents and give us the capacity we need to keep our community growing.”

-Mayor Danny Kelly

The Government of Canada is contributing $199,156 and Morell is providing $66,000 bringing the total investment, including provincial funding, to more than $398,000. Recently, funding for projects was also announced in Alberton, Wellington, and Souris.

“We need the right infrastructure in place before new housing can be built, and this investment helps make that possible in Morell. By working with our municipal and federal partners, we’re helping communities grow and build more homes for Islanders.”

-Housing and Communities Minister Kent Dollar

The project is funded through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, part of an $86.2-million agreement to accelerate housing development, support higher-density communities, and meet demand for affordable housing in PEI.

The province continues to provide incentives and investments to increase housing supply, with a focus on higher-density development, in partnership with municipalities and the federal government.
