Island Essentials Benefit payments to begin early July

The provincial government is providing the Island Essentials Benefit (IEB) to eligible Islanders and most who qualify will receive their first payment in early July.

Single Islanders with a net income of up to $126,000, and couples or single parents with a net income of up to $131,500, will receive this first payment. This payment and the one in October will be labeled PEI Sales Tax Credit but will reflect the enhanced IEB amount. The payment will be deposited by Canada Revenue Agency using residents’ chosen payment method.

Prince Edward Island residents will receive the benefit automatically if they are at least 19 years old and file an income tax return for 2025. There is no need to register and no one from the government will contact Islanders to sign up.

Further payments will be made in October and November this year. Single Islanders with a net income greater than $126,000, and couples or single parents with a net income greater than $131,500 will receive their full payment in November.

This program directly addresses affordability pressures faced by Islanders, a key priority identified in Premier Rob Lantz’s mandate letter to cabinet earlier this year.
