Province recognizes Hope Air Day and 40 years of service
Hope Air Day is recognized on May 6, and this year marks Hope Air’s 40 years of service supporting Islanders and other Canadians who must travel for essential medical care.
As a national charitable organization, Hope Air helps patients and families across the country with the logistics of travel for medical care. For many Islanders, this support makes it possible to access specialized services outside the province.
“We are deeply grateful for the work Hope Air has done for Islanders over the past 40 years. For families who must leave the province for care, Hope Air has helped make those journeys possible, and that support has made a meaningful difference for patients and families across PEI.”
-Minister of Health and Wellness Cory Deagle.
In 2025, Hope Air supported Islanders by arranging 5,928 travel supports for 1,810 patient and escort trips. This included airline flights, bridge and ferry passes, gas vouchers, accommodations, meals, and ground transportation.
Prince Edward Island has partnered with Hope Air for decades, reflecting a shared commitment to patient‑centered care. Between February 2025 and March 2026, the provincial government provided over $1.3 million to support Hope Air’s work. In this anniversary year, PEI is also being recognized as one of 40 Hope Air Patrons (major supporters) across Canada.
“Hope Air has long played an important role in helping Islanders access out-of-province care,” Minister Deagle added. “Our support in 2025, along with PEI’s designation as a Hope Air Patron this anniversary year, reflects the importance of this work for patients and families across the province.”
The province thanks Hope Air’s donors, volunteers, pilots, airline partners, and health care partners for their continued collaboration and dedication to supporting Islanders.
