Statement on the removal of Gilles Arsenault from his Ministerial Portfolios

Today, Premier Rob Lantz issued the following statement on the removal of Gilles Arsenault from his ministerial portfolios:

“Effective immediately, Gilles Arsenault has been removed as Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Artificial Intelligence and Minister responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs due to a report I received yesterday detailing a review of the handling of a permitting issue during his time as Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Action.

As Premier, I have a responsibility to ensure all members of Cabinet meet the high standards Islanders expect. Despite having positive intentions, Gilles made a serious error of judgement for which he’s been held accountable.

At a swearing-in ceremony Monday, Jenn Redmond will be sworn in as the Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Artifical Intelligence, and Minister Zack Bell will assume responsibility for Acadian and Francophone Affairs. Kent Dollar will be sworn in as Minister of Housing and Communities, returning Cabinet to its full complement following the passing of Hon. Mark McLane.”
