Spring weight restrictions on roads begin March 8

Seasonal weight limits on PEI roads will come into effect at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026.

Annual restrictions protect roads while they are more vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles.

While restrictions are in place:

  • Maximum axle loads for heavy trucks will be lowered on roads that are not designated as all-weather highways.
  • Overweight permits will not be issued.
  • Enforcement will be stepped up and fines for violations may increase significantly reaching several thousand dollars.

The provincial government thanks members of the trucking industry for their continued cooperation.

Motorists are also reminded that spring driving conditions can include frost heaves, potholes and other surface changes. Drivers should use caution and adjust to road conditions in the weeks ahead.
