Strengthening health workforce with Marion L. Reid Grant

The Province of Prince Edward Island continues to make progress in strengthening the health care workforce with 121 students receiving funding through the Marion L. Reid Grant. 

The grant provides financial support to students enrolled in post-secondary studies in an eligible health care program who commit to working in Prince Edward Island. This builds on the province’s broader efforts to train, retain, and recruit health care professionals.

Since its launch in 2024, the grant has supported a range of health professionals who are vital to deliver care across the province. To date, 121 agreements have been signed for students pursuing their studies in the following areas:

• Registered Nurse – 55
• Nurse Practitioner – 16
• Pharmacist – 10
• Social Worker – 13
• Dental Hygienist – 9
• Medical Sonographer – 5
• Medical Radiation Technologist – 3
• Respiratory Therapist – 3
• Medical Laboratory Technologist – 2
• Pharmacy Technician – 2
• Occupational Therapist – 1
• Health Information Management Professional – 1
• Dentist – 1

The Departments of Health and Wellness and Workforce, Advanced Learning and Population continue to work with educational institutions, the health sector, and community partners to advance recruitment and retention strategies across all areas of health care. 

The grant program is named in honour of Marion L. Reid, Prince Edward Island’s first female Lieutenant Governor and a lifelong advocate for education, health and community service. It reflects her legacy of leadership and dedication to people.
