Statement by Minister Gilles Arsenault on National Acadian Day

Hon. Gilles Arsenault, Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs issued the following statement on National Acadian Day:

“Today, I am proud to celebrate National Acadian Day with all Islanders. August 15 is a special day for Acadians and Francophones as we celebrate the community’s vitality, resilience and diversity.

The day is also an opportunity to learn more about Acadian history and culture in Atlantic Canada and in our province. Acadians are well known for their liveliness and have greatly contributed to the Island’s social, cultural and economic fabric.

As part of the celebration, the Franco-tour de l’Île with activities for all ages, runs August 10 to 17 across the six Acadian and Francophone communities of Rollo Bay, Charlottetown, Rustico, Summerside, Evangeline and West Prince.

For the first time in over 20 years, PEI will be hosting the official festivities with the national concert broadcasted live on Radio-Canada from Charlottetown at 9 p.m. The ceremony will be at Confederation Landing at 5:15 p.m. followed by a Tintamarre at 5:55 p.m.

As a proud Acadian, I invite all Islanders to participate in the activities happening in the Acadian and Francophone communities across the Island today and the upcoming days. Come discover our beautiful and vibrant community and learn more about Acadian history and culture.

Happy National Acadian Day! Bonne fête nationale de l’Acadie!”
