Province announces plans for new elementary in East Royalty

Design plans for the new East Royalty Elementary School were unveiled today.

The new school will be built next to L.M. Montgomery Elementary School, using the same design as the recently opened Sherwood Elementary School. Once complete, East Royalty Elementary will welcome up to 650 students, serving Island families living in the eastern region of Charlottetown up to Stanhope

Offering multiple areas for flexible student learning, support, and counselling, East Royalty Elementary will provide students, teachers, and staff with a modern learning environment. Using a nature-centric interior design and architectural style, with daylight and advanced acoustic control, as well as other elements of modern design, notable features of the new school will include:

  • Maker’s spaces for project-based learning;
  • Open concept classroom walls to support team teaching and group activities;
  • Modern energy systems;
  • More outdoor space for physical activities.

Construction of the new school is expected to begin later this summer with an anticipated completion in 2028.
