Capital Budget 2026-27: moving the province forward, building with purpose

Today, Hon. Jill Burridge, Minister of Finance, presented the Government of Prince Edward Island’s 2026-27 capital budget to the Legislative Assembly, outlining a five-year plan totaling $1.6 billion in infrastructure investments to support the province’s needs for today and into the future. 

  

Capital Budget five-year highlights include: 

Health care that delivers:

  • Kings County campus, including a new hospital and community health centre - $132.2 million
  • Mental health campus completion - $131 million
  • Investing in primary care access - $22.9 million
  • Modernizing access to healthcare information - $21.7 million
  • Two new CT scanners – $11.9 million
  • QEH refresh and campus redevelopment - $102.3 million
  • Supporting care for seniors - $14 million

Creating places to learn:

  • New elementary schools - $65.4 million
  • New Summerside school - $14.5 million
  • New and expanded intermediate schools - $133 million
  • New and renovated high schools - $44 million
  • Securing French language education - $92 million
  • School revitalization and capital repairs - $36 million
  • Increase to Childhood Recreation Fund - $1.5 million

Investing in people and places:

  • Roads, bridges and highways - $296 million
  • Protecting our land – $21.3 million
  • Investment in affordable public housing – $128.3 million
  • Provincial parks improvements - $9 million
  • Subsea power cable - early planning process - $600,000 (over two years)
